Playing In The Garden

A Salt Lake City Sculpture Park curated by the Friends of Gilgal
749 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah

Thomas Child built Gilgal Garden in his backyard from 1947 until his death in 1963. He shared Gilgal with thousands of visitors during his lifetime. He hoped the garden would inspire viewers to ponder “the unsolved mysteries of life” and struggle to find their own answers. Child was well aware that many people would find Gilgal Garden strange, but hoped they would accept its challenge. “You don’t have to agree with me,” he explained. “You may think I am a nut, but I hope I have aroused your thinking and curiosity.”

This is YOUR garden, come and play.
Whether you are a teacher or a student feel free to wander around Gilgal Garden, either virtually through this interactive site, or by actually visiting the Garden located at 749 East 500 South in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Here you will find a number of stimulating activities accompanied by a virtual tour. Students will be asked to use their heads (whose would they use?!) and express their opinions in a highly individualized format geared to develop personal empowerment through the acquisition of lifelong skills.

Teachers will find that the multidisciplinary activities are a wonderful academic resource based on a real person's life and commitment (obsession?). The enclosed TEACHER'S GUIDE and corresponding CORE CURRICULUM TABLE will faciltate the classroom application of the activities and establish their relavance across the curriculum.

Nothing is more fun than learning. Have fun in the Garden.
