Building Community

Gilgal Garden has been preserved and is open to the public in a large part due to the efforts of a group of community activists, individuals like you, spearheaded by the nonprofit organization Friends of Gilgal Garden.

Activity

1. Think of a place in your community life that you would like to designate as an official Community Resource.
This could be anything from a neighbor’s garden, or a well cared for block, to a particular street corner that has become a community gathering place.

2. Create a name for this community resource and write a brief description outlining its attributes. You may even add drawings, maps, and photographs.

3. As a class explore the different suggested community resources. Choose one that would seem most appropriate and form a committee to investigate if there is anything that could be done to recognize this resource and honor it publicly.

Do it.
